It's been discussed many times before and several players have commented on running stadium steps. I will admit I ran into several Cowboys today enjoying hamburgers and well earned cheesy and greasy hamburgers.
Running back Rennie Childs and defensive tackle Ben Hughes were among the Pokes taking in a calorie-loaded lunch, but when you were up at 6 a.m. and running those stadium steps, up and down, over and over, inside Boone Pickens Stadium to the lights from above well, you feel like you earned a special treat.
I spoke with two former Cowboys this afternoon in linebacker/safety Deion Imade and former standout quarterback Clint Chelf. Both also now appear weekly on the pregame show with their own segment on the Cowboy Radio Network from Learfield. The two played together at Oklahoma State and both are very eloquent on the subject of stadium steps and the entirety of the Friday workouts in the offseason and summer under strength and conditioning chief Rob Glass. Imade even admits to having to overcome a fear of stadium steps.
Both players talk about the work in the weight room afterward being very taxing, but both also talk about the accomplishment and the confidence that came out of those workouts, physical and mental. Chelf even talks about feeling like you earned the weekend or for a few Cowboys, a special cheesy and greasy hamburger.
