OSU Begins Season Ranked 21st In AP Poll

Oklahoma State is ranked 21st in the Associated Press 2016 Preseason College Football Poll.

The 81st year of the Associated Press conducting a college football poll is underway as the preseason poll for 2016 was released on Sunday morning. Alabama the defending national champion, and Clemson are atop the AP preseason poll just as they finished last season's final poll. This is the fifth time overall and third under HC Nick Saban that the Tide start the season on top.

Oklahoma State is ranked 21st in the new poll. Also, out of the Big 12, Oklahoma is third, TCU is 13th, and Baylor is 23rd.

The SEC leads all conferences with six selections. The Pac-12 has 5 teams, while the ACC, Big Ten, and Big 12 each have 4.

For Oklahoma State it is the seventh time they have been ranked in the AP preseason poll and the fifth time under current head coach Mike Gundy. Personally, I would love to be able to keep a standing bet in Las Vegas that Oklahoma State will be ranked higher in the Amway USA Today Coaches Poll than in the media-based Associated Press. It is a virtual slam dunk every year.

Oklahoma State's highest preseason AP ranking is ninth and it came in the 2009 and 2011 polls.
