Spencer Sanders was among several recruits in the locker room after Oklahoma State's 49-31 win over Texas on Saturday afternoon, but Spencer was the only one we know of that made a verbal commitment after the game.
The Class of 2018 quarterback has been really high on Oklahoma State since we introduced you to him following the Mary Hardin-Baylor satellite camp at L.D. Bell High School, and he hit it off with Cowboys quarterback coach and offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich.
"I did commit after the game when I was in the locker room," Spencer Sanders said as he is fresh off leading Denton Ryan to a 6-0 record with a 38-7 win on the road at Braswell on Thursday night. "I had been leaning to Oklahoma State for awhile."
Sanders is 6-2, 195 pounds and certainly a dual threat quarterback.
This season in the six wins by Denton Ryan, which also includes wins over Mesquite Poteet and Denton High, he has completed 60 percent of his passes (90 of 149 passing) for 1,179 yards and 13 touchdowns versus just four interceptions. He has also rushed for 529 yards and 11 touchdowns on 86 carries.
Ryan has an open week next week meaning you could see Sanders in Stillwater again for the Iowa State game. Ryan plays Sherman next on Oct. 14.
"I like the way they do things at Oklahoma State," he continued. "I like the way they run their offense and it is a lot like we do it at Ryan. I like the way oach Gundy coaches his team and I really like coach Yurcich and the way he coaches the offense."
Sanders is in his second season starting at Ryan as he started a sophomore and threw for 2,589 yards with 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also rushed for 830 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground as a sophomore. This is an excellent pickup for the Cowboys to start their 2018 class with a quarterback commit.
