Southwest Mississippi Community College tight end Ravian Pierce is listed as committed to his original school out of high school in Mississippi State, but the two-time leading receiver for Southwest Mississippi is scheduled to officially visit LSU this weekend for the Tigers game with Alabama.
Now he has an offer from Oklahoma State and the interesting aspect of that is OSU is graduating its two top tight ends or Cowboy backs this season, and Pierce is familiar with Oklahoma State because his favorite athlete is Dez Bryant.
Pierce is 6-4, 235 pounds and plays much of the time like a big wide receiver lining up outside, slot, wing, and attached to the offensive line. This past season the Bulldogs only finished 2-7 but Pierce caught a whopping 50 passes for 426 yards (8.5-ypr) and two touchdowns. As a freshman last season he had 27 catches for 207 yards and three touchdowns.
The native of powerhouse Plantation (Fla.) High School committed to Mississippi State out of high school. On the field on video he shows really good speed for his size. Lining up outside, he shows he is really capable of running vertical and he can high point the football. He made a lot of his receptions over the middle and displayed really good moves and ability to pick up yards after the catch.
He is involved in the quick game passes and never is brought down by just one defender. He catches balls well in coverage. His blocking is good from a hustle standpoint but he is not a dominating blocker. It is the area of his game that needs the most work.
Obviously, Mississippi State is on there and has a December visit scheduled. He is looking at LSU, and the expectation is Oklahoma State will get a look and an official visit.
