Jake McClure showed up on the Oklahoma State campus on Friday for an unofficial visit and walked around all day saying, "wow" at the facilities. The kicker and punter from East Hamilton in East Brainerd, Tenn., is a product of the Krohl's Kicking Academcy and was recommended to Oklahoma State as the Cowboys are looking for a kicker.
Over the weekend, Jake McClure received a scholarship offer and he took virtually no time to think it over as he committed to the Cowboys, Mike Gundy and special teams coordinator and graduate assistant Steve Hauser.
"Blessed beyond belief," tweeted McClure at his Twitter address @Jake_McClure4.
He added this message: "It's been an incredible journey to get to where I am now," he tweeted. "I want to thank James Wilhoit and Kohl's Kicking for making me the specialist I am because I couldn't have done it without them. I would also like to thank my friends, my brother, my girlfriend, and my parents for the constant love and support to keep me going. With that being said, I have officially committed to Oklahoma State University on full scholarship. To God be every bit of the glory!! #GoPokes."
McClue is 6-3, 196 pounds and lists a 4.62 in the forty, which makes him athletic, but he had a 56-yard field goal this season, which earned him the state's Specialist of the Week honor and really propelled his recruiting. He played on a team this season at East Hamilton that went 5-6 and 3-3 in conference.
Last season as a junior he hit 4-of-8 field goals, 63-of-65 on PATs, had 44 touchbacks on 51 kickoffs, and punted for a 41.8-yard average. He comes in as a kicker that is a jack-of-all-trades but will likely be pinpointed toward placements initially and compete with current kickoff specialist in Matt Ammedola.
