Cowboys Off Until Regrouping In San Antonio

Oklahoma State players and coaches have a few days off before reconvening in San Antonio to finish preparations for the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 29.

The football offices in the West End Zone went dark earlier today. There was some recruiting news as Oklahoma State picked up another commitment from a specialist of a player in fullback/Cowboy back Sione Finefeuiaki out of College of San Mateo.

However, the bowl practices for the Alamo Bowl in Stillwater have wrapped up. Players from Texas headed home as they will go on to San Antonio on Friday from home. Players from in-state went home and will meet back in Stillwater on Friday to catch the charter flight to San Antonio. Other players, if they could, headed home and will fly into San Antonio on Friday. A few players stayed around and will catch the charter.

"I want the staff and the players to get out of here and have some time with their families for Christmas," Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy said as bowl practices were winding down in Stillwater. "I'm the one at staff meetings making sure everything is done that needs to be done so everybody can get out of the office."

The workouts in Stillwater were high-spirited and went well. The last practice on Tuesday had a special audience with two little league football teams from Cushing, dressed in orange and black there cheering. The Cowboys offense put the ball in the end zone that they were sitting behind right after they arrived and joined them in an end zone celebration.

Hopefully there will be plenty of those in the end zone of the Alamo Dome on Thursday, Dec. 29.

Gundy felt good about the practices.

"Our guys are doing well. We've had a plan with two days on and one day off and they've worked hard," Gundy said. "Their attitude is great. We finished practice on Tuesday and then let them go for a couple days and will meet them at the bowl site. I'm pleased with where our team is right now. We're healthy. Attitude, and all those things I think are important during bowl preparation, have been very good up to this point."

The Cowboys charter flight departs Stillwater at 9:30 a.m. Friday and arrives in San Antonio at 10:50 a.m. The team will hold its first San Antonio practice at Alamo Heights High School at 4:15 p.m.
