As we get set to come out of the recruiting dead period toward the end of next week, following the CFP Championship Game and the AFCA Convention, here is what Oklahoma State really needs and wants to finish its 2017 recruiting class.
With Mason Rudolph making his decision to stay for his senior season and with James Washington coming back at wide receiver those two positions need no additions. You have Jelani Woods coming in at mid-year as a new enrollee and he will join the existing quarterbacks including Rudolph and Wudtee, who figure to be the top two based on our observations.
Running back could use an extra member in the class, but it is not absolute. It has to be the right guy and those right guys are kind of evaporating out there.
No wide receivers needed as class is already strong. Last year's class was solid and there are so many talented returners.
Tight end is okay, but if a perfect fit popped up then that would be a great addition. I would call adding another player here a long shot.
Offensive line is high need and really there need to be two promising high school recruits that could come in with the strong possibility of being ready in two to three seasons for major duty.
Defensive line is an area where you always take a quality player when available. As far as need, I think a defensive tackle is definitely there after the NFL declaration of Vincent Taylor.
Linebacker is another need spot and I don't know who Glenn Spencer is going to come up with. He is still battling hard on Tyler Taylor from Georgia but will have to beat OU, Auburn, and Georgia, a tough threesome.
Corner position is fine but a safety is needed and the Cowboys are still looking for one.
Needs: 2 offensive lineman, 1 defensive tackle, 1 linebacker (inside), 1 safety.
Wants: 1 running back, 1 tight end.
