Oklahoma State has one position group where a really strong finish is needed and that is offensive line. After losing a pair of Texas high school offensive line commitments in December the Cowboys have continued to recruit Texas, looked in Oklahoma again, and reached out to another state they've had success in and and have a quarterback and running back heading to Stillwater from in this current class and that is Georgia.
We reported on Caleb Chandler being offered by the Cowboys just prior to the 38-8 Alamo Bowl win over 10th-ranked Colorado. Chandler had to watch the team that just offered him and say, "Wow" after seeing the explosion the Cowboys showed in the bowl win.
The huge 6-5, and close to 300-pound Chandler has narrowed his three schools to Oklahoma State, Louisville, and Florida.
He will visit the Cowboys on their really big visit weekend on Jan. 20. He will catch Louisville on Jan. 13 and has scheduled for Florida the final weekend of January. He has picked his recruiting back up late because of how deep Jefferson went in the Georgia state playoffs.
Chandler is from a very good high school program in Georgia in Jefferson High School that went to the Class AAAA semifinals before losing to Thomson.
Chandler was a two-way player for the Dragons that looks on video could play both ways, but his girth, reach, and mashing ability will be cherished on the offensive side as you will see in this more cinematic video of highlights from the quarterfinal win over the Cairo (Ga.) Syrupmakers (love that nickname).
You can see his explosion on defense and his overall physicality, but on the offensive highlights you can see his footwork and his arm extension in pass blocking and keeping edge rushers at bay and unable to get away and get a path to the quarterback. On run plays, you can see his pull and block on the move with "dart" technique coming across on the line of scrimmage and also up close his ability to simply get off the ball and mash the defender right in front of him. This offensive line as a whole at Jefferson opens up some big holes.
Chandler has been getting a lot of attention on Twitter (@Calebchandler55) from Pokes commitments from Chuba Hubbard, J.D. King, Jelani Woods, Tracin and Tylan Wallace, Brock Martin and more. He would be a huge addition and likely an upgrade from certainly one and maybe both of the Texas offensive line commits the Cowboys lost.
