Cowboys Host Nearly 80 On Junior Day

Nearly 80 high school prospects, most from Texas and Oklahoma, made the trip to Stillwater for Oklahoma State's Junior Day on Saturday.

Oklahoma State football was really busy this Saturday as head coach Mike Gundy and his staff hosted three official visitors. The Cowboys also hosted close to 80 prospects and their guests for Junior Day.

It was the typical function as the prospects heard from Gundy and met with position and recruiting coaches. They also took a tour of the facilities, primarily the West End Zone and the Sherman Smith Center, and then after the activities were over many of the prospects, most of them from Oklahoma and Texas, went over to Gallagher-Iba Arena to watch the Oklahoma State basketball team dismantle the Arkansas Razorback 99-71 in a Big 12/SEC Challenge contest.

Sitting right behind us during the game was Byron Hobbs, an outside linebacker from Fort Worth Eastern Hills High School, and his mother and father. They were really enjoying the game. Hobbs' father said he alway enjoyed watching Desmond Mason play during his time at Oklahoma State. They also really got excited about the story line of Phil Forte as he finished with four 3-pointers just enough to tie and then break the Oklahoma State existing career 3-point record of 299 held by Keiton Page, who Mr. Hobbs remembered playing for Oklahoma State.

The whole group was enjoying the game and give credit to Oklahoma State fan Mason Greenwood, who was sitting next to Byron and continued to have conversation with the young man and talk about how special Oklahoma State is and the relationship between students, fans, and the athletes like the football team.

Gundy would have been very proud of Mason Greenwood, who told me, "Mr and Mrs. Greenwood taught me well, and yes, I'm going to make sure I'm friendly and show those folks how we welcome people at Oklahoma State."

As for Hobbs, He received an offer from the Cowboys today and tweeted that he was blessed to get his first offer from the Cowboys. He is a 6-4, 205 pound outside linebacker who runs a 4.76, has a 31-inch vertical, and a bench press max of 255 and a squat max of 405. He is a long, tall rangy prospect for the star or weakside backer position.

"They talked to me about playing the star and even the mike position," Hobbs said.

You could tell that Byron and his folks had a good time in Stillwater on Saturday and were very proud of the scholarship offer.
