Tush: Thank You For A Great 17 Years

Terry Tush began covering Oklahoma State athletics in 1987 and has spent the past 17 years with Go Pokes, but this is his last contribution to

In the summer of 2000, I had only been on the job for a few months as Executive Editor for Neighbor Newspapers in the Tulsa area when I received a call from my good friend Ken MacLeod. He told me that First Down Publications was looking for someone to oversee its college sports magazines, which included what was then the O-State Sports Report (and would eventually become Go Pokes Magazine).

To make a long story short, I accepted the job offer by First Down Pub owners Edd Bellatti and Roscoe Migliore (and can’t say thank you often enough for the opportunity the two OSU alums gave me). That was the beginning of my association the past 17 years in the business of college sports publications and websites.

In 2004, when First Down Publications sold its magazines and websites to Scout Media, I was given the opportunity to become publisher of Go Pokes Magazine and the accompanying website Robert Allen and I have teamed up to provide the content for both the magazine and website.

However, this will be my last contribution to

After 17 years, it’s time for a change. There are numerous reasons for this decision but the most important is my job as Director of Marketing and Communications for OSU’s Spears School of Business is requiring more of my time.

As you most likely know, the new OSU Business Building is under construction and plans to open early next year. If you’re not aware of the new building, just click here to take a look. My position at the Spears School is going to require much of my attention throughout 2017 as we plan some exciting events prior to opening the state-of-the-art building in 2018.

It’s going to be a new chapter in my life as I’ve covered OSU athletics off and on for the past 30 years, beginning in 1987 when I was named the Oklahoma State beat reporter for The Tulsa Tribune.

The list of Cowboys and Cowgirls that I’ve had the privilege of interviewing and writing about over the years would be considered a “Who’s Who” list of OSU icons (and the envy of many loyal and true fans) – Barry Sanders, Mike Gundy, Michele Smith, John Smith, Thurman Thomas, Rickie Fowler, John Lucas, Eddie Sutton, Josh Holliday, Bob Kurland, Tiffany Bias, Robin Ventura, Neill Armstrong, Olus Holder, John Corker, Mike Holder, Brandon Weeden, Hart Lee Dykes, Desmond Mason, Gary Ward, Terry Miller, Mark Moore, Andrea Riley, Mike McGraw, Ernest Anderson and many more. will remain in good hands under the direction of Robert, who is one of the most knowledgeable people covering Oklahoma State athletics. His dedication and commitment to providing the best OSU coverage is unmatched.

I’m looking forward with anticipation to this new chapter in my life, but you’ll still see me rooting for the Cowboys and Cowgirls at Boone Pickens Stadium, Gallagher-Iba Arena and Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.

Thanks to everyone who has supported Go Pokes over the years. It’s been a great run.

Go Pokes!
