OSU Wrestling Big 12 Championship Preview

Oklahoma State Head Coach John Smith previews the Big 12 Wrestling Championship. The Oklahoma State Cowboys will be competing for their fifth straight championship and 18th under Coach Smith

Second nationally ranked (USA Today/NWCA Coaches poll), and number one in the Big 12, Oklahoma State is set to hit the road tomorrow in search of their fifth straight Big 12 Championship being held at the BOK Center in Tulsa. And despite losing to Penn State in the NWCA National Dual Championship back on February 19th, the Cowboys go into the Big 12 Tournament heavy favorites to win at multiple weights as well as the team championship. The Cowboys have had an INCREDIBLE showing in tournaments so far this year breaking records for team points scored and margin of victory at the Southern Scuffle earlier this year, as well as following that performance up with winning the Reno Tournament of Champions despite sending no starters to compete! Head coach John Smith will be sending previous Big 12 individual champions including Joe Smith, Preston Weigel, and Kyle Crutchmer. You also have Dean Heil and Nolan Boyd who will competing for their third each and Anthony Collica, who will be vying to become only the eight Cowboy wrestler to become a FOUR time conference champion!

Starting Saturday morning at 11am, the Cowboys begin the quest for their 15th Big 12 conference title in the 20 years dating back to 1997 when the tournament was first held, and their 50th overall dating back to 1917 when they claimed six championships in the Southwest Conference between 1917 and 1925. Four Missouri Valley conference championships from 1925 to 1928 and 24 Big Eight championships between 1958 and 1996. The Cowboys under Coach Smith have won 18 conference championships including the 2012 and 2013 season, and Coach Smith has coached 102 individual champions since taking over the program in the 1991-92 season.

The Cowboys will practice tomorrow at the BOK Center and then the action will get underway Saturday morning at 11am.
