Redmond A Top 20 Athlete at Opening Reg

Midwest City's Jalen Redmond is a 2018 recruiting prospect on fire. He was a standout at The Opening Regional, his scholarship offers go up nearly every day, and he is glad that he left the gym and basketball court to get back on the football field.

It's funny because a year ago and Midwest City's soaring defensive end prospect in the 2018 class strictly considered himself a basketball player, but constant prodding out of the Bombers coaching staff and, in particular the defensive coordinator landed Redmond on the football field and in a short period of time on the recruiting lists of schools across the region and now that is stretching to across the country.

"My defensive coach, Coach Sexton, kept texting me and calling me to come out for football, but I stayed in the gym and then my junior year I finally come out and I didn't think I'd blow it up," Redmond said. "I did and I'm real happy."

Redmond balled out last Sunday (March 5) at Nike's The OPening Regional in Frisco, Texas and he finished in the top 20 of the over 400 prospects athletically. Redmond ran a 4.84 in the forty, 4.37 in the 5-10-5 shuttle, 41 foot power ball, and a 34-inch in the vertical jump.

This past season Redmond took back to football like he'd never been away focusing on Hoops as he finished for a stout Bombers team with 81 tackles and 16 sacks.

Oklahoma State has offered Redmond, despite some recruiting sites not reflecting that. The 6-2.5, 228 pound defensive end prospect has an offer from the Cowboys along with Arizona State, Arkansas State,Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Memphis, Nebraska, Tulsa, OU, and recently, Arkansas.

Redmond said he Oklahoma State was his first favorite team and we here at Go Pokes are predicting a Mike Gundy versus Cale Gundy Bedlam recruiting battle.
