It’s no secret that senior quarterback Mason Rudolph is one of, if not the top senior quarterback in college football for the 2017 season. And it’s also no secret that Mason is going to have one of the, if not the best receiving core in college football for the 2017 season. Not only will he be throwing to James Washington, Jalen McCleskey, Chris Lacy, Marcell Ateman, and Tyron Johnson among others, but he’ll have one of the best running backs in college football behind him as well as some very solid (pun intended) cowboy backs to throw to/ have blocking.
Thursday, Oklahoma State Athletics released a tweet with a cryptic photo with Rudolph’s No. 2 prominently in the center as well as a highlight promo video (orange.okstate.com/rudolph). What did it mean? Well, according to @StuffMikeDoes on Twitter, ‘Each letter is two letters off. Adjust each letter up by two letters and it says "Mason Rudolph For Heisman"’.
And Rudolph has a very real opportunity to win it this season. He threw for 4091 yards and 28 touchdowns last season, and having such and arsenal of weapons to choose from (Washington, Ateman, McCleskey, Johnson, Lacy, Hill…the list goes on and on) this season, it appears that he’s slated to bump those numbers up even higher.
Rudolph enters his senior season with 8,714 passing yards with ranks him third among returning starters, second amongst returners in passing yards per game and second in passing yards per attempt. He’s also a huge reason why the Cowboys enter the 2017 season ranked in the top ten.
Mason has 55 career touchdowns and 597 completions with only 17 interceptions. He holds 11 school records and is set to break four more this fall in pass attempts, pass completions, passing yards and passing touchdowns.
In 2015 and 2016 he was the Offensive Team MVP for the Cowboys. And in 2016 he was a Davey O’Brien Award and Johnny Unitas Award Semifinalist.
