Recruiting 18: Barron in Spring Football

Blake Barron of Rockwall said he had an excellent time in Stillwater for the Oklahoma State spring game and he is closer to becoming a Cowboy as he will graduate early in December.

Rockwall, Texas linebacker Blake Barron was just out of spring football practice on Thursday evening when we caught up with the first Oklahoma State commitment in the 2018 class.

"Yes sir, I've got some time," he told us. "We have started spring football and I just got out of practice."

The 6-1, 223 pound linebacker is as enthusiastic about his commitment to Oklahoma State as he was back on Jan. 30 when he made the pledge.

"I loved it," Barron said of his trip to Stillwater on April 14 for the Cowboys recruiting Orange Blitz and the annual spring game on Saturday, April 15. "I was there the night before the game and I got to hang out with the players. I was with linebacker Chad Whitener and some of my other future teammates. It was a good time and I really enjoyed being with the players. Our group, the 2018 commits we have a group text going and we are on that a lot."

Barron also confirmed that his teammates at Rockwall, linebacker Alston Orji is being recruited by Oklahoma State and we knew that. Barron also said Oklahoma State is looking at a cornerback on Rockwall as well.

"I know the coaches are going to come by and check him out this spring," Barron added. "I'm going to get up there this summer for a camp, not to compete but to hang out with the guys and then I will take my official visit as soon as I can because I graduate in December and will be there early."

Barron had 88 tackles last season and is geared toward another good season.

I've seen him working on other prospects and we laughed about the fact that WFAA.com in the Dallas area had a mock draft using the NFL teams and their needs and drafting top Dallas-Fort Worth high school players. Barron went with the 17th pick to the Washington Redskins.

"Can you believe it," Barron said. "The Washington Redskins of all teams."

He was one of two OSU commitments that was picked as Spencer Sanders, the quarterback out of Denton Ryan went with the 12th pick to the Cleveland Browns. At least on Spencer, the predominant color was right. As for Barron, obvious he is a Dallas Cowboys fan.
