Recruiting 2020: Princely Prospect in Belton

Football camps are going on all across America in the month of June and many of the prospects are known, some ar unknown. It is fun to find those guys and Go Pokes found one in Belton on Saturday night in Princely Umanmielen.

There's nothing more fun in the job of covering the recruiting process than being in on the ground floor, at least the first floor in the start of the recruiting of a young football player. Manor, Texas defensive end Princely Umanmielen is just starting out in the process.

"I played JV as a freshman, but this will be the first year that I play Varsity," said the 6-4, 224 pound sophomore to be after he finished working out for the group of college coaches at the first Texas MegaCamp hosted by the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Joining the Crusaders staff in Belton for the first of four camps were Oklahoma State, Oregon State, Kansas State, Washington State, Prairie View A&M and there will be more on the final three legs in San Antonio, outside Houston at Prairie View A&M, and in the Dallas area at L.D. Bell High School.

"They have me playing defensive end and some three-tech defensive tackle," added Umanmielen, who also said he is gravitating to the weight room and working on getting stronger.

His tape from his freshman season the junior varsity shows as expected a green player that plays too high, gets blocked, but is athletic enough to make big plays. He will get so much better, but the advantage for Princely starting out is that tremendous size with athletic ability that is only going to improve as he matures.

He has the desire and he showed it in the camp as he seemed to be anxious to be coached and shown ways that he could improve. There are no guarantees with any sophomore to be, but I can promise you that Oklahoma State, Oregon State, Kansas State, and Washington State will keep their eyes on Umanmielen and Manor, Texas. There will be a lot more joining them as well. A good season this fall and he will have a major scholarship offer or more by Christmas.
