The new media guide is out! The new media guide is out! Okay, it's not quite Steve Martin in the movie The Jerk, but it is another sign that football season is rapidly approaching.
FRISCO, Texas -- Not everybody in the media heads over to the venue on Sunday, the day before the Big 12 Football Media Days kickoff, but Zach Lancaster and I ventured to The Star late Sunday afternoon to eyeball the layout. It is great with radio row for us in the morning smack dab down the middle of the field. That should make it easier to grab guests and get some interviews flowing early. Everything is in the main stadium, which is an indoor stadium used for practice by the Dallas Cowboys and with 12,000 seats is also used by the Frisco area schools for games and by the UIL for high school playoff games in the postseason. Down on the end of the field was a table that media folks visit and partake of all that is offered. The Big 12 Media Guides were out, all except Iowa State and Baylor and those should arrive tomorrow with Baylor coming on Tuesday their guide may debut that morning or later Monday night. The 2017 Oklahoma State Football Media Guide was out and it looks really good. Quarterback Mason Rudolph's mug is front and center and the cover design by Jordan Smith is excellent along with the photography from Bruce Waterfield. If you are related to Mason Rudolph you will be hustling around to see how many copies you can get. The design is flat out cool.
The front also features action shots of wide receiver James Washington, strong safety Tre' Flowers, and slot receiver Jalen McCleskey. There are posed shots with offensive tackle Zach Crabtree and linebacker Chad Whitener. The inside front cover features head coach Mike Gundy and trumpets the many accomplishments of the program under Gundy including being one of seven schools to be in every CFP rankings since 2015. the wins overall, the five 10-win seasons since 2010, and the four New Year's Day six bowl games since 2010.
Including all pages except covers and inside covers, there are 232 pages in the media guide. There are bios on the entire coaching staff and some of the support staff. There are 100 players bios in the new guide. It also includes all the records, results, history, honors, facilities facts, and a section on the University.
The back inside cover features linebacker Justin Phillips, wide receiver Chris Lacy, free safety Ramon Richards, and sophomore offensive guard Marcus Keyes surrounding the new OSU badge logo. The back cover has the schedule with a "kind of" Boone Pickens Stadium background and pictures of punter and Ray Guy candidate Zach Sinor, sophomore and last season's Freshman All-American running back Justice Hill, and returning receiver from injury Marcell Ateman.
If you can get your hands on one I promise you would enjoy it.
