Michael Tate Profile
How is your season going so far? It's going real good. Last weekend we played Central. We beat them 44-0. I remember that because my number is 44. We've got Edison this Friday night. It is our homecoming.
How would you describe yourself as a player? I'm probably the best pass-rusher on the team...really, the best D-Lineman on the team. I'm not saying that we don't have other good D-Lineman, but I just feel like I'm the best lineman on the team. These last couple of weeks, they've moved me to defensive tackle, because we're lacking on the inside. I still use my speed at that position.
Do you enjoy playing on such a star-studded squad at Washington? I love it. I feel like, when it is all said and done, I feel like we all might go to the same school.
Which of your teammates impresses you the most? I'd have to say (tailback) Keith Marshall, because he's probably the littlest guy on the field, but, next to me, has the biggest heart. He can get about anything done.
Have you enjoyed the recruiting process so far? I have been enjoying it a whole lot. I have enjoyed all of the attention, and the opportunity to go to some games. I really haven't been able to go to a lot of games, but I'll be going to a lot of games coming up these next couple of weekends. I feel like the visits, the official visits, whenever I take those...I feel like that is going to be real fun.
Which games do you plan on attending in the upcoming weeks? I'm going to the Arkansas vs. Florida game, and I'm going to go to OSU vs. Kansas State next week. I've already gone to a couple of TU games right here in town. And the, I plan on going up to Nebraska for a game, and I might catch Missouri for a game.
Have you heard about
Do you have a leader at this point in time? I love Nebraska. They are number one on my list right now. I've been a big fan, ever since Tommie Frazier was there, Lawrence Phillips, everybody. I just really love Nebraska, always.
Do you see yourself fitting into Nebraska's defensive scheme? Their defense is real good. I talked to their coach. They play a rush end, and then they have just a regular end that plays on the line, but they've got one end that just hits the edge every time and just goes. I feel like that could be me.
If you end up at Nebraska, would you like to wear #7 like Demarrio Williams who plays that rush end position? I'm gonna try to go for #13 or #17. When I was a freshman (at Tulsa Washington), I played varsity, and they give you a number of some person that you kind of play like. They said I play just like Mark Anderson who plays for Alabama, so they gave me #44.
Which schools have offered you? Arkansas, Colorado, Missouri, Tulsa and Oklahoma State.
How probable is it that you would play for Tulsa? My dad went to Tulsa, so that could be a possibility if I am going to follow in his footsteps.
Is Oklahoma recruiting you? OU is talking to me a lot.
Which coach is calling you from Oklahoma? Coach Shipp. I really like him. He's a real good guy to get along with. He's real cool. I know Quentin committed either today or yesterday.
How about Oklahoma State? Coach Monken. I talk to him almost every week, and I see him when he comes to the school. When he comes to the school, he really can't talk to me, but he waves to me to let me know he's there.
Arkansas? Coach Womack. They are doing real good this season, real good.
Do you think that the current staff at TU can turn that program around? I think so, but, I was talking to Coach Jimmerson, and he was telling me that when a coach does real good, he usually doesn't stay too long, and I'd hate to be recruited by those coaches, and then once I get there, they leave. I'd hate for that to happen.
