Reid Celebrating State Championship

Galena Park North Shore quarterback Robert Reid said he was as happy as he looked on the television screen yesterday after he and his Mustang teammates capped off an unbeaten season in knocking off The Woodlands 23-7 in the 5A Division I State Championship Game before some 40,000 fans at Rice Stadium. Reid is considered one of the top quarterback prospects in the entire nation, and he made a verbal commitment this summer to Oklahoma State.

"It was a dream come true," added Reid who for the first time in really since the playoffs began talked some recruiting. "We (North Shore players) told coach when the playoffs began to tell the recruiters we just wanted to concentrate on playing ball. I know that is all I was thinking about." The big questions in Reid's recruitment concern his commitment to Oklahoma State, is he taking any other visits, and does he still plan on enrolling for the second semester and starting college early. "I am still committed to Oklahoma State," said Reid. "I have not set up any other visits as of now, but I am just getting around to thinking about it. I'm not sure if I'm going to enroll for next semester, I'm still thinking about that."

I also asked Reid about his teammate, tailback Justin McNeese and whether he was being recruited.

"He's good," said Reid of McNeese. "I know he is being recruited, but I don't know by which schools. He broke his leg when he was supposed to start for us last year and that may have caused some schools not to know about him. I do believe he is being recruited."

Reid and McNeese combined for nearly 400-yards in the win over The Woodlands. Reid hinted he was going to take a relaxed pace in dealing with his recruiting situation.
