Roderick Johnson Profile

Background: Johnson has great speed and is just the kind of rangy athlete you want to have as an outside linebacker. He was preseason third team All Super Team in Texas Football. Johnson didn't disappoint in his senior campaign. He had 74 tackles, four sacks, two fumbles forced, and two fumble recoveries this past season.

He earned All District honors, District Defensive MVP, All County, All Greater Houston, and All State in The Houston Chronicle in addition to being placed on The Dallas Morning News Texas Top 100 list. He was recruited by LSU, Ohio State, Florida, Arkansas, and Arizona.

Why OSU? "It was perfect on my visit and felt just like home Everybody from the coaches to the players were so open. I wanted to play football in the Big 12, and I saw the talent that is here and I want to be part of what they are building. I didn't want to go to a program that is the finished product, but one where I can be part of building a legacy."

Roderick Johnson Personal Highlight: "It was my junior season and against Clear Lake I blocked a punt and run at in late in the game 50 some odd yards for the touchdown. That touchdown clinched my school it's first playoff berth in three years. It was a great feeling."

O-State Outlook: Johnson is an outstanding talent and reminds you a lot of Victor DeGrate coming in last season. He has size, strength, speed, and football instincts to become a star linebacker. He likely won't have to wait long. Getting the early start this spring he should be in a position where he will play a lot next fall. Johnson not only provides immediate quality, athletic depth at linebacker, but he insures that the future of the position will be a strength for the Cowboys.
