TOP 20 JUNIOR-Gaylon Burris

GAYLON BURRIS Broken Bow Quarterback 6-0, 180, 4.4

Burris may be a capable thrower, but given the way the Broken Bow quarterback runs with the ball, there is rarely a reason to do so.

"He's a running quarterback, no question about that," said Broken Bow coach Greg Werner. "We can have Gaylon pass when we need to, but his strength is as a runner."

Gaylon Burris ran for 665 yards and four touchdowns in his junior season, leading Broken Bow to a 9-3 record. Despite averaging 6.86 yards per carry, Burris didn't even have 100 rushing attempts on the season. That figures to change in the coming season.

Still, Burris' passing numbers were nothing to sneeze at — 37 of 78 for 775 yards and eight touchdowns.

"Gaylon is just a great athlete," said Werner. "He's fun to watch. But he's also an unbelievable competitor. He refuses to give up. He's that kind of player.

Burris hasn't even begun to narrow his college choices yet. "It's wide open," said Werner. "It may turn out that he may go to junior college, but there's no doubt that he has the athletic ability to succeed on the next level."
