Tyrone Lewis clinched his fourth All-America finish with a victory over Iowa State's Nick Passolano. Lewis scored a trio of takedowns to seal the 8-4 win and advance to the semifinals.
Chris Pendleton scored five takedowns and a pair of near fall points en route to a 14-3 major decision over Illinois' Pete Friedl. Pendleton advanced to the semifinals for the first time in his career with the win.
Zack Esposito recorded the first quarterfinal victory for the Cowboys with his win over Jeremy Spates of Missouri. Esposito scored the only takedown of the match in the first period, and then held off Spates for the 5-3 victory.
Jake Rosholt advanced to the semifinals for the second-straight year with a 4-1 victory over Michigan State's Nate Mesyn. Rosholt and Mesyn wrestled a scoreless first period before Rosholt scored the first points with an escape and a takedown. The now two-time All-American rode Mesyn the entire third period to secure the riding time point.
For the first time in his career, Johnny Thompson will not compete in the finals. He fell behind early to Penn State's Josh Moore, 5-0, and fought back but couldn't hang on as Moore went on to win a close 8-7 match.
Will Gruenwald fought hard against second-seed Pat Cummins (Penn State), but fell short in overtime 6-4. Cummins recorded an escape to open the second period only to see Gruenwald take the lead off a takedown. The Nittany Lion then took a one point lead with a takedown in the third period.
Gruenwald tied the score at 4-4 with an escape to send it into overtime. Cummins then shot on a low single to seal the victory with the takedown.
After losing to Damion Hahn in the second round, Rusty Blackmon has won two consecutive matches by fall and a decision to advance. Blackmon's fall was his second of the tournament and helped the team stay ahead of the pack.
