DEVON DAVIS-Top 20 Junior

DEVON DAVIS Altus Strong safety 6-1, 175, 4.55

Davis became a starter in Altus' secondary as a sophomore and has only improved with time. As a junior, Davis chalked up 70 tackles and an interception and now is being courted by dozens of high-profile schools throughout the midwest.

"I get 10 to 15 letters a day on the kid from everybody," said Altus coach Jim Holloway. "He doesn't have a clue where he's going yet, but he's going to have a lot of options."

Devon Davis doesn't have Roy Williams-type size, but he plays the game similar to that of the Dallas Cowboys safety.

"He plays safety like a linebacker," said Holloway. "He's real instinctive, has a nose for the football and is a good tackler. He's always around the football when the whistle blows."

Davis was able to pile up the 70 tackles because he moves forward far more often than backward from his defensive backfield position.

"Let me put it this way," said Holloway, "he's a defensive back that you can always see on film. Most defensive backs shuffle backward out of the film when you're trying to watch tape on them. But Devon is easy to see because he is always wherever the football is."
