Annie Thurman wins individual conference title

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (OSU Athletics <>) — Sunday's final round of the Big 12 Women's Golf Championships have been cancelled due to rain, it was announced this afternoon. Final results of the tournament revert back to Saturday's round.

Cowgirl junior Annie Thurman won the individual title by seven strokes over Texas' Janice Olivencia. Thurman becomes the 20th OSU golfer to win medalist honors at the conference tournament, and the foruth since the Big 12 formed in 1996-97.

Texas won the team title by seven strokes over second-place Texas A&M. The Longhorn victory breaks a string of three-consecutive Big 12 Championships by Oklahoma State. The third-place finish by OSU is the lowest by a Cowgirl squad since 1998, when OSU also finished third.

The win gives Thurman her first-career collegiate victory, and it's the first by a Cowgirl since teammate Karin Sjödin won the individual title at the TOPY Cup to open the 2002-03 season. Thurman is the first Cowgirl junior to earn the conference individual title since Eva Dahllof won the 1988 Big Eight Championship.

The Cowgirls will return to action May 8-10, in the NCAA Regionals at a site yet to be determined.
