Cowboy Golf Tied For First Place

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (OSU Athletics <>) — Oklahoma State's men's golf team moved up from fourth place into a first-place tie with Texas during the second round of the Big 12 Championship on Monday with a five-over-par team score of 285 at Prairie Dunes Country Club.

"I am proud of all these guys and the way they played today," OSU head coach Mike Holder said. "It was a real test for these guys out there."

The Cowboys, whose second round score was the low round of the day, will take a 36-hole team score of 577, 17-over-par, into tomorrow's final round after opening play with with a 12-over-par, 292 total during the morning session to come in five shots off the lead held by the Longhorns.

Junior Alex Norén and freshman Tyler Leon fired one-over 71s during the first round to stand in a tie for sixth place before carding scores of 68 and 76, respectively, in the afternoon. Norén's round was the second lowest of the day and moved him into sole possession of second place and three shots behind Texas' Jason Hartwick, who sits atop the individual leaderboard at 136, four-under, after a second-round 66.

Leon dipped into a tie for 14th place at 147, seven-over, while fellow freshman Casey Wittenberg carded back-to-back rounds of 73 to stand in a three-way tie for 11th place at 146.

Sophomore Chris Clarke rebounded from an opening-round 78 with a one-over 71, vaulting him from a tie for 50th place into an eight-way deadlock for 22nd at 149.

Sophomore Zack Robinson rounded out the Cowboy lineup with a 150 total after shaving four strokes off his opening-round score with a 73 during the second round to move up 14 spots into a tie for 30th.

The Cowboys will begin their final round tomorrow at 8:50 a.m. at the par-70, 6,596-yard layout and will be paired with Texas and Kansas State.
