Cowboy Golf Finishes Third At Big 12 Championship

HUTCHINSON, Kan. <a href="http://www.okstate.com">Mens Golf</a> Oklahoma State's men's golf team carded a 16-over-par team score of 296 during its final round to finish in third place at the Big 12 Championship on Tuesday morning at Prairie Dunes Country Club.

The Cowboys' 54-hole total of 873, 33-over, came in three shots behind Oklahoma and nine shots behind tournament champion Texas, which posted an 864 score to wrap up its third consecutive team title. The Longhorns also produced the individual medalist with Jason Hartwick's 205 score giving him top honors and snapping OSU's streak of two consecutive individual champions.

OSU entered the day tied with Texas for first place and the Cowboys' starting five made the turn at five-over-par to remain in contention. However, OSU stumbled on the back nine with a combed 18-over-par total, including a 12-over stretch covering the final four holes.

Individually, a pair of Cowboys posted top-10 finishes with junior Alex Norén tying for third and freshman Casey Wittenberg coming in eighth.

Norén entered the day one-under before a final-round 75 gave him a 214 total and his fourth consecutive top 10, while Wittenberg posted the team's low score of the day with a 71 to earn his fourth top 10 in seven career starts with a 217 total.

Freshman Tyler Leon recorded his sixth career top-20 finish, tying for 16th place with a 222, 12-over total.

Sophomore Chris Clarke carded a final-round 75 to finish at 224 and tied with eight other players for 20th place, while fellow sophomore Zack Robinson came in with his second 77 of the tournament for a 227 total, tying him for 36th place.

OSU will return to action on May 15 when it travels to Ardmore, Okla., for The Maxwell.
