Senior transfer Allen provided the offense for the Cowboys going 2-for-4 with his ninth homerun of the season as he tied a career high of five RBIs. He drove in five runs last year with Arizona State against Hawaii-Hilo on Jan. 19.
Reliever Scott Richmond pitched the final 4.1 shutout innings to earn his
first victory of the season and run his record to 1-2.
OU starter Mark Roberts retired 15 consecutive hitters at one point, but
suffered the loss and dropped to 6-4 on the season.
The Cowboys are now 28-14 on the season and have won seven consecutive Big
12 games to improve to 11-4 in conference play, while the Sooners dropped to
27-17 and 13-6 in Big 12 action.
Ole Sheldon got the first hit for the Sooners in the fourth inning with a
two-run shot over the left field wall.
Brenan Herrera led off the fifth inning for OU with a bloop double and came
around to score on an infield single by Jeff Scuderi. Ryan Rohlinger cut the
OSU lead to one with a two-run double off of the left field wall.
The Cowboys answered with two runs in the top of the sixth. Scott Kirby
walked to end a string of 15 consecutive batters retired by Roberts. Senior
Mario Matulich blooped a double down the line to put runners on second and
third and Allen drove them both in with a single to right field.
Richmond got Matt Bose to hit it right back to him for the final out of the
game for the Cowboys.
The series will shift to the Bricktown Ballpark tomorrow night in Oklahoma
City with southpaws Spencer Grogan for OSU and David Purcey for OU,
