OSU advances to 58th consecutive NCAA Championship

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (OSU Athletics <http://www.okstate.com>) — Oklahoma State's men's golf team qualified for its 58th consecutive NCAA Championship on Saturday with its runner-up finish at the NCAA Central Regional held at Purdue's Kampen Course.

OSU completed play with a 54-hole total of 893, 29-over, after a final round of 308 to finish 11 shots behind tournament champion Kentucky. In search of their third consecutive regional title, the Cowboys entered the day two shots behind the Wildcats and challenged UK for most of the day before playing the final four holes in 18-over-par.

Individually, OSU was led by a pair of freshman as Tyler Leon and Casey Wittenberg both posted top-10 finishes, coming in among the group tied for eighth at 221, 5-over-par. Leon, who recorded his third career top 10, closed out the tournament with a 75 after consecutive 73s, while Wittenberg earned his fifth top 10 in nine career starts.

Junior Alex Norén turned in his second consecutive 77 to finish tied for 21st at 224, snapping a streak of five consecutive top 10s that dates back to a tie for 28th at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate on March 16.

Sophomore Zack Robinson carded a 6-over-par 78 in 37th place at 228, while fellow sophomore Chris Clarke posted a final-round 82 to finish tied for 91st place at 237.

The Cowboys will return to action on June 1 when they travel to Hot Springs, Virginia and The Homestead Resort for the NCAA Championship.
