O-State Football Recruiting List Part IV - DT

You can mark Houston Tayloe tight end Martellus Bennett off the list as the 6-7, 242 pounder has verbally committed to Miami, Florida. It is a little bit of a surprise as Bennett had seemed fairly open, and had been very complimentary of Oklahoma State and Texas A&M.

Bennett told us that he didn't want to go through a full course of recruiting and had always intended to make an early commitment. Miami was a favorite school and when they offered he jumped at it. He added he might play two sports, football and basketball, for the Hurricances.

The good news on that commitment is it was expected that one of the Houston-area tight ends would end up at Miami, and now the action heats up for Galena Park North Shore tight end DajLeon Farr. The 6-6, 240 pounder is actually the highest rated tight end prospect in Texas. He played on last season's North Shore 5A title team and caught passes from OSU freshman quarterback Robert Reid. The connection is expected to help, Farr has even admitted it, in recruiting him to Oklahoma State.

Now to the defensive tackle prospects. This is a need position for Oklahoma State as they would like to sign two or three high quality defensive tackle prospects in the 2005 class.

They have already offered a number of players, many of them among the highest rated prospects in the nation. Those early offers include New Orleans St. Augustine tackle Alfred Jones. The Cowboys have a soft commitment from his defensive end teammate Jarryl Jackson, which could help in attracting Jones. Rudy Odum is another Louisiana prospect the Cowboys have offered as the 6-3, 251 pounder out of Mandeville is a very athletic and determined player. Vince Oghobaase and Nick Richmond are two Texans high on everybody's list. Oghobaase out of Alief Hastings is 6-5 1/2, 300 pounds and strong as a bull. Richmond out of South Garland is 6-7, 281 pounds and has unusual quickness for his size.

Jeff Owens out of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Brandon Perry out of Hawkinsville, Ga.; and Jeff McKinney out of Louisville, Ky, are among the very best defensive tackle prospects in the nation and Oklahoma State has offered them all. The Cowboys will look around the juco ranks for help at this position, and Willie Williams out of Hutchinson J.C. in Kansas has already received an offer.

In Oklahoma there are a trio of prospects to watch in Zach Casey of Jenks, Brandon Huneryager of Owasso, and Kenneth Pointer out of Lawton Eisenhower. They appear to be the best of the Oklahoma prospects.
