Fields and Jaramillo Selected In Baseball Draft

Fields was selected by the Chicago White Sox with the 18th pick in the first round, while Jaramillo was selected with the 62nd pick of the second round by the Philadelphia Phillies.

Fields is Oklahoma State's first first round pick since outfielder Jeromy Burnitz was picked with the 17th pick by the New York Mets in the 1990 draft.

He is also the first third baseman that the White Sox have picked in the first round since they chose former Oklahoma State standout Robin Ventura with the 10th selection in the 1988 draft.

Fields, who was undrafted out of high school in 2001, led the Cowboys this season with a .362 average to go along with 21 doubles, 10 homers and 47 RBIs. His three year totals are: a .364 batting average, 40 doubles, 25 homers and 131 RBIs in 163 games.

Jaramillo was originally drafted by the Phillies in the 39th round out of high school in 2001. He was a repeat first-team All-Big 12 selection this year and finished with a .350 batting average to go along with eight homers and a team best 57 RBIs. His three-year totals are:.359 batting average, 38 doubles, 20 homers and 116 RBIs.
