Recruiting Update: LaMark Carter & Chris Jones

Playing a little catch up after getting back from Kansas City. Rivals is reporting that Arlington Lamar running back LaMark Carter and Lafayette Carencro defensive end Chris Jones are committed to Oklahoma State. I think they will be, but hang on for a few days. The Oklahoma State coaching staff is on their annual retreat and neither player has been able to get in touch with the coaching staff.

LaMark Carter, a 5-11, 195 pounder from Texas powerhouse Arlington Lamar is a solid prospect, but OSU does have a tailback in the class, albeit one that could wind up playing another position. OSU is also thick in the running for the best tailback prospect out of Texas in Houston Westside standout R.J. Jackson. I'm going to wait for the process to take it's course on that one.

Chris Jones is a different story. The 6-3, 239 pound defensive end is a likely nonqualifier and would be placed. I feel pretty sure that OSU, with South Carolina, LSU, and Alabama also interested, would take him and place him.

Still, both scenarios will be played out in a few days. We've jumped the gun on one prospect already before he got word to the coaching staff. Better to wait and be right than jump the gun and be wrong. I keep having to remind myself of that in covering recruiting. We'll stay on top of both stories.
