Cowboys Report 105 Strong

STILLWATER, Okla. (OSU Athletics <www.okstate.com>) — Oklahoma State Head Coach Les Miles welcomed the 2004 football Cowboys back to campus Sunday as preparations begin for the season opener next month.

There were no surprises Sunday as Miles and his staff welcomed a combination of 85 scholarship players and 20 walkons. OSU's players spent the afternoon going through the check-in process, moving into preseason housing and taking care of other details ahead of the first actual workouts, scheduled for Monday.

"This is always an exciting day for us. Everyone we expected to be here is here," said OSU's fourth-year head coach. "I think we had a great summer as far as our off season conditioning is concerned, and now we've got everyone here and can focus on getting ready for a new season."

For the second straight year, NCAA rules allowed everyone to report to campus on the same day. The first five practice days will feature a morning workout with newcomers and a select number of returners and an afternoon workout with just veterans.

Oklahoma State's first combined workouts will be Saturday, August 14 with two-a-day workouts scheduled for Saturday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday of that week. Classes begin at Oklahoma State the week of August 23 when the Cowboys will revert to one daily practice.

OSU's preseason workouts will be held both on the artificial surface of Boone PIckens Stadium and on the grass practice fields. All preseason workouts are closed to the public, unless otherwise noted. OSU's 2004 Fan Appreciation Day is Tuesday, August 10 on the concourse of Gallagher-Iba Arena. The activities begin at 10 a.m.

The Cowboys open the 2004 season on Sept. 4 in Los Angeles against UCLA and open the home season a week later against Tulsa.
