Cowboys Receive 17th Commitment

Add the name of Lafayette (La.) Carencro tight end/defensive end Chris Jones to the Cowboys' commitment list. Jones split time between the two positions last season and did not post great stats, but this summer he drew attention at the Nike Baton Rouge camp with his size and 4.6 speed. As a result Super Prep rated him the 24th best player in Louisiana.

"I really just like the coaches, sir," said the ultra polite Jones about why he committed to Oklahoma State. "They were very open minded with me, and I found myself talking to them more than the coaches that were really recruiting me harder. Coach Carey Bailey recruited me and I really like him. He's very easy to talk to."

Jones was also offered by South Carolina and was being recruited by LSU and Texas A&M. He has not qualified as of yet with a 2.7 grade point average and yet to take the ACT. He said he would take it for the first time this fall.

He has started his senior football season with a scrimmage last Thursday in which he had a 40-yard reception at tight end and logged nine tackles at defensive end. Carencro will play in the Northside Jamboree in a scrimmage this Thursday and then opens the season next week with powerful St. Thomas More.

Jones represents Oklahoma State's 17th verbal commitment, the most ever at this stage of a recruiting year in school history.
