Keys to a Cowboy Victory

1. No Turnovers
Southern Miss, Louisiana Tech and Nebraska – the last three season openers on the road and in each game the Cowboys gave up turnovers. They are killers. Two years ago in Stillwater, with a 10-0 lead over UCLA, the Cowboys started throwing interceptions. There were five of them and UCLA scored 31 unanswered points on the way to the 38-24 win.

2. Cole Farden For Field Position
Farden's punts, and he has been booming them in practice, along with his powerful kickoffs are the biggest weapon in winning field position. Don't be afriad to use him even in pooch situations. Keeping the Bruins deep in their end could lead to some easy or easier scores.
3. Run the Football at the Bruin Line The UCLA defensive line is weakened. Now C.J. Niusulu is out with a knee injury making it three projected defensive line starters missing the game. Only Kevin Brown remains. The line is now sophomore, sophomore, redshirt freshman and true freshman. This is the place to attack and big doses of the offensive line, fullback Shawn Willis and Vernand Morency and Greg Jones should wear the Bruin pups down.

4. No Big Plays For UCLA
UCLA was 110th in total offense a season ago. They did a good job of stomping on their own feet. Don't give them reason to believe in year two with Dorrell and first-year offensive coordinator Tom Cable that they are in a renaissance. Big plays ignite more momentum in an offense than anything other than opposing turnovers. Make it hard. Make them earn every point they score.

5. One Easy Score
This could be the key that puts this game over the top. An easy score could go hand and hand with the bruising running game in destroying the UCLA spirit. It doesn't matter if it's a Darrent Williams punt return, an interception or a fumble that sets up a quick score. Any of those scenarios could be the back breaker for the Bruins.
