Key Matchups: OSU vs. Tulsa

Let's start with this general premise – Oklahoma State has more talent than Tulsa. Because of that the Cowboys should beat Tulsa four out of every five times they play, but in the previous 69 meetings between the two Oklahoma State only owns a 37-27-5 advantage. The explanation is it's a rivalry. Tulsa rises up and gives great effort in the contest. It is extremely important that Oklahoma State match the emotion and intensity that the Golden Hurricane will bring to the game.

OSU Offensive Line vs. Tulsa Defensive Line
It's another mismatch as the Cowboys bring the beef to a three-man front for Tulsa. On the defensive line for Tulsa is end Brandon Lohr (6-0, 250 pounds), nose guard John Mila (6-3, 329 pounds) and end Robert Latu (6-2, 250 pounds). The Golden Hurricane will bring up support in the form of linebackers and safeties, but if Sam Mayes and company come through with another demolition effort like they did to the UCLA defensive line then Morency and company should run all day. Offensive coordinator Mike Gundy says he'll have Donovan Woods passing more, but the Cowboys dominating this matchup should make those passes thrown for fun, entertainment and practice for future opponents.
Big Edge to Oklahoma State

OSU Defensive Backs vs. Tulsa Wide Receivers
Do not underestimate Tulsa's top two wide receivers – Jeermaine Landrum and Montiese Culton. Little Jermiane Landrum is a speedster who can get loose and when he does is hard to catch. Montiese Culton has speed, but at 6-2, 174, he is big enough to go up and over some corners. The Cowboys can match Tulsa's speed with Darrent Williams, Robert Jones and Daniel McLemore. If Tulsa gets some quick and cheap touchdowns it could be enough to make the crowd at Boone Pickens sweat this one out. However, if the Cowboys can force turnovers like they did against UCLA that could be enough to blow the game wide open.

OSU Linebackers and Safeties vs. Tulsa Tight Ends
Tulsa's secret weapon is the tight end position. They line Garrett Mills and Caleb Blankenship up all over the place, and they also bring in Cory Hathay and Conner Long off the bench for a rare four tight end formation. Mills and Blankenship really kind of act as fullbacks with short receptions that can turn into long gains. The tight ends need to be identified and never left loose. When the tight ends come up big, Tulsa usually wins.
