Right now Rashad Roussel is worrying about riding out Hurricane Ivan. The storm is bearing down on the Gulf Coast, but Roussel is hoping it doesn't postpone a big home game that Boutte Hahnville has on Friday night.
Opponents worry about riding out their game when they face Roussel. The 6-foot-2, 267-pounder is a load with 4.9 speed and a powerful bench press of 330 pounds along with a squat max of 525 pounds.
Last week Roussel finished with 11 tackles, six pass deflections, and a sack and a half in a 28-6 win over Destrahan. Last season Hahnville won the 5A State Championship and Roussel had 68 tackles and 12 sacks. The talented defensive tackle is attracting solid interest from some big name schools.
"Right now I am considering Oklahoma State, West Virginia, Auburn, Ole Miss, Colorado and Nebraska," said Roussel in his thick Cajun accent. "I'm looking for a school that is in a warm climate; I don't like the cold. Mainly, I'm looking for good people, friendly. It's about the people because you are going to be there four years. The people and the coaches."
So far, Roussell likes the recruiting process, but he admits sometimes the phone calls are too much.
"It's crazy," added Roussel. "At first I really liked it. It's nice to know that people are interested in you. It's just sometimes the phone calls catch you at the wrong time, and it keeps ringing and ringing."
The right time for Roussel will be after the season as he told me that he will concentrate on defending the state championship before making visits and narrowing his decision down to one school.
