Cowboys, Jayhawks Hoops Favorites

STILLWATER, Okla. (http://www.okstate.com) — Oklahoma State and Kansas both garnered 116 points as the co-favorites to win the 2004-05 Big 12 Basketball Championship, it was announced today by the conference office. OSU and KU both received six first-place votes, as well as five second-place selections.

Oklahoma State returns four starters and four other reserves that won the Big 12 regular-season and tournament titles, and took the Cowboys to the Final Four. The Pokes boast co-Big 12 Player of the Year John Lucas (15.1 ppg) on a squad that finished 31-4 a year ago.

Kansas returns its top four scorers from last season, including leading scorer Wayne Simien (17.8 ppg). The Jayhawks advanced to the NCAA Regional Finals a year ago after a title game appearance in 2003.

Texas is projected to finish third after receiving 97 points in the coaches poll. Oklahoma is fourth with 94 points, while Missouri (80 points) rounds out the top five.

The preseason All-Big 12 team will be announced on Tuesday, Oct. 26, one day prior to the Big 12 Basketball Media Days, held Oct. 27-28 in Kansas City, Mo.
