Cowboys Sign Big Man

STILLWATER, Okla. ( — Kenneth Cooper, a senior at Richwood High School in Monroe, La., has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Oklahoma State Cowboy basketball team, it was announced today. Cooper joins four Texans who signed with OSU last week.

"Kenny gives us a low-post presence we were looking for in this class," said OSU Head Coach Designate Sean Sutton. "He has good size, plays extremely hard, and his best basketball is ahead of him. We're excited to get him, and feel like he'll be a tremendous player at Oklahoma State."

Cooper, a 6-10, 250-pound center, averaged 15 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots per game last season as a junior. He is ranked as a four-star basketball recruit by, and is the No. 66 overall high school player in the country this season.

"Kenny is an athletic big man that has good mobility, great hands, plays hard, and has a keen understanding of the game," said OSU Assistant Coach Jimmy Willliams, who recruited Cooper. "He has a wide body, and since he's only 16, he has plenty of potential to grow. The sky's the limit (on his size).

"The thing that impresses me the most, though, is that he's a very quick learner," Williams said. "He takes everything in, and has the ability to adapt, which is key for a big man."

Cooper was also recruited by LSU and Texas Tech, and chose OSU over Louisiana-Lafayette and Mississippi State.

"Kenny is a very disciplined kid who understands and respects the game," said Richwood Head Coach Terry Martin. "He knows what it takes to be successful, and he's willing to do the extra work. He's very respectable and coachable. His upside is tremendous."

OSU has inked two five-star recruits and three four-star signees during the early signing period. Cooper's signing also gives Coach Eddie Sutton and his staff five of the top-66 players in the country according to Oklahoma State has three scholarships remaining for the 2005-06 season.
