Golf Adds Prep Standout

STILLWATER, Okla. ( – Oklahoma State's men's golf team has signed Trent Leon to a National Letter of Intent it was announced Monday.

Leon, the younger brother of current Cowboy golfer Tyler Leon, earned honorable mention AJGA All-America honors this past season after being tabbed as a second-team selection in 2003.

A native of Dallas, Texas, Leon currently attends the Pendleton School and the David Leadbetter Golf Academy in Bradenton, Fla. This past summer, he competed primarily in men's amateur events, including the Monroe Invitational, Western Amateur, Porter Cup and Sunnehanna Amateur.

During his junior season, Leon posted eight top-10 finishes in AJGA-sanctioned events on his way to becoming the No. 2-ranked junior player in the country.

A qualifier for the past two U.S. Amateurs, Leon was the medal play champion at the 2004 Terra Cotta Invitational and posted a third-place finish at the 2004 MCI Heritage.

Leon claimed medalist honors at the 2003 David Leadbetter International Tournament as well as finishing third at the 2003 AJGA Boys' Championship.

In 2002, he carded a 68 during his final round to win the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail Junior Classic. In addition, Leon was crowned the FHSAA Class 1A Region 6 champion as a freshman at Saint Stephen's Episcopal in 2001.
