Recruiting: Jon Cooper

Jon Cooper's mom answered the phone and said that her son was unavailable to come to the phone. This time of year that means one thing, coaches in the home.

The mother of the 6-3, 270-pounder whispered "Iowa State" when asked which school was there to visit. The Cyclones have been recruiting the Fort Collins, Colo., offensive and defensive lineman. He has already made his official visit to Iowa State last week for the Cyclones' game with Missouri. He was at Oklahoma the week before for their final home game with Nebraska.

Cooper is also being recruited by hometown Colorado State and Missouri 12/10 and Wisconsin 12/17, but now he is going to make a visit to Oklahoma State.

His mother confirmed that he will visit, along with his parents, this weekend to Stillwater. Cooper was also in Stillwater this summer for camp. The Cowboys have already offered.

Allen Wallace of spoke with Cooper earlier in the evening and filed this report.

Fort Collins (CO) OL Jon Cooper (6-3, 273, 4.95,'s #45 OL, 4 stars) still says Oklahoma (10/23 official trip) and Iowa State (10/8 official trip) lead slightly over Oklahoma State, Wisconsin and Missouri.

"Oklahoma and Iowa State still lead slightly for me, but I'll really know who my leader is when I'm done with my official visits. I think that's when I'll decide," says Cooper.

"Oklahoma has a really good OL this year…I think it's one of the best in the Big 12. Coach (Kevin) Wilson (OL) finds athletic guys for that OL and not just guys that are big. I liked the team chemistry that I saw there--that's a big thing for me. They're always in the hunt for a national championship and that definitely perks my interest.

"Iowa State is a real young team right now. They were a little down this year but they'll be up soon. I anticipate seeing a real bright future for them. I think it would be cool to be a part of a program like that. One where you go in when it's down and help bring it back up again.

"We've already got a our TE, Derrick Catlett, committed there, and although that will not sway my decision to commit there as well, it's always nice knowing somebody when you take that first walk into the door.

"I really like coaches (Tony) Alford (LBs) and (Barney) Cotton (off. coord.). Plus, graduate asst Bo Beck used to coach at my high school and I know him well.

"At this point, my top schools can change with just one visit."

Cooper will also officially visit Oklahoma State (12/4), Missouri (12/10) and Wisconsin (12/17).
