Mayes Receives<br>All-Big 12 Honors

Senior Sam Mayes, who has started 36 of 37 games the past three season on the Cowboy offensive line, was the lone Oklahoma State player selected to the first team on the SBC Big 12 All-Conference football team, selected by the league's 12 head coaches. He was the only Cowboy selected on the first team.

The 6-foot-3, 330-pound Mayes, the Cowboys' right guard the past three seasons, has been a mainstay on the offensive line since breaking into the starting lineup as a sophomore in 2002. He started all 11 games this season in helping the Cowboys to a 7-4 regular season record. As a junior, Mayes started in 12 of 13 games and he was in the starting lineup for all 13 games as a sophomore.

Two other OSU players received recognition by the league coaches. Running back Vernand Morency and receiver D'Juan Woods were both selected to the second team. Morency has rushed for 1,454 yards and 12 touchdowns in 10 games (he sat out one game because of nagging injuries), while Woods leads the Cowboys with 29 catches for 650 yards (22.4 yards per catch) and six touchdowns.

OSU players receiving honorable mention recognition were nose guard Clay Coe, punter Cole Farden, safety Vernon Grant, offensive tackle Corey Hilliard, tight end Charlie Johnson, cornerback Robert Jones and safety Jamie Thompson.
