Recruiting: Matt Fodge

Garland, Texas, kicker and punter Matt Fodge made his official visit to Oklahoma State this weekend, but he left campus early. It wasn't because Fodge wanted to leave; he had to get back to get a picture taken at the Dallas Morning News because he had been chosen the All-Area kicker by the newspaper.

Fodge has a tremendous season that also saw him named first team All District as a kicker and punter. He averaged close to 40 yards a punt, puts about eight out of ever 10 kickoffs out of the end zone, and hit several 50-plus yard field goals.

His father told us the visit went very well.

"It was great," said Mr. Fodge of the visit that Matt and both his parents made this weekend. "They kept us busy. We ate a lot and did a lot of things.

"His host was Cole Farden. Matt, Cole and Jason (Ricks) exchanged telephone numbers. Matt is graduating early, but he is not going to enter school. He is going to go up there and spend some time kicking and that will allow him to get in touch with Cole and Jason. The visit went a long ways toward making him feel even better about his decision."

Mom and Dad also had a good time.

"The coaches and their wives made my wife and I feel right at home, and the facilities are great. I wish I'd had an opportunity like that coming out of high school."
