Recruiting: DeMarcus Granger

Dallas (Texas) Kimball standout DeMarcus Granger is rated No. 3 in the country at his position and the No. 1 defensive tackle on LSU's wish list. The 6-3, 325-pounder has the total package with an awesome combination of strength, quickness and agility.

Granger has been a man amongst boys over the past two seasons and you can bet all of the coaches and players he made life miserable for are glad to see him move on to the college level.

LSU got first crack at hosting Granger on an official visit last weekend and he came away thoroughly impressed with what he saw.

"It was a real good visit," he said. "The facilities were already good but you can see how they are making them better by putting everything together at the football complex. They have a nice academic center and really everything was nice."

Marlon Favorite was Granger's host for the weekend and the two created a bond during the short time they spent together.

LSU receivers coach Bobby Williams and defensive line coach Travis Jones have teamed up in recruiting Granger and lately they have been getting a helping hand from the Tigers' head man.

"I really like coach Saban," Granger said. "He kept it real when we talked over the weekend. He told me if I come in ready to run and in good shape then I will have a chance to get in the rotation. He didn't tell me what he thought I wanted to hear. I respected that."

One of the highlights of the trip for the big Texas native was having breakfast at Saban's house on Sunday and then attending the team banquet later that evening.

When asked if the trip met all of his expectations, Granger replied, "It was a 10. It created more interest on my part and gave me something to think about."

Next up is his official visit to Oklahoma this weekend followed by an in-home visit from Saban and Williams late next week.

Granger said he is not ready to name a leader and he doesn't expect to have one until he finishes up with his visits.
