Recruiting: Larry Brown is an Interesting Story

We reported on Saturday that Larry Brown had committed to Oklahoma State. But other than his stats from this past season at Georgia Military College we didn't have much information on the 6-foot-3, 290-pound defensive tackle. Now, however, we have some more information on Brown.

The truth of the matter is we were lucky to have the story. Count that one as being in the right place at the right time. We happened to see Brown back by Heritage Hall at halftime of the OSU-Baylor women's game and he was celebrating with several assistants over the fact that he had just told Mike Gundy he was committed to playing football for the Cowboys.

"Everything on the visit was just right," said Brown of Oklahoma State from the DFW International Airport where he was boarding a flight for Atlanta. "It's the Big 12 which means you are going to play great teams; the best competition."

Brown is originally from Spartanburg, S.C., and did not play his senior season in high school but still had interest from South Carolina. The Gamecocks directed him to Georgia Military where he played for two seasons, starting this past season.

He told me that South Carolina, Middle Tennessee, UNLV and Illinois were recruiting him, but OSU assistant Gunter Brewer helped convince him that Oklahoma State was a great opportunity.
