LSU's recruiting class received a major boost Monday evening when the Houston (Texas) tandem of Westside's R.J. Jackson (5-11, 200, 4.5) and Lamar's Brandon La Fell (6-3, 185, 4.5) announced they were headed to LSU.
"I just committed to the Tigers," said Jackson, who is rated the 10th best running back in the land by Scout.com. "I just felt it in my gut that it was where I wanted to go. I've always been feeling LSU since I went there for junior day and it just felt like home."
La Fell's decision came down to playing time and the distance factor but the chance to play with Jackson for the next four or five years was the icing on the cake.
"It's close to home and they said they are only signing one receiver," La Fell told Tiger Rag. "With my boy R.J. going there it made my decision easy."
La Fell and Jackson both visited Florida this past weekend and they said that was when they realized Baton Rouge was going to be their new home.
"It came down to Florida and LSU for me but LSU was too close to home," La Fell said. "The distance factor and depth is what it came down to."
Many felt that LSU and Texas would be the finalists for Jackson but it actually came down to two schools LSU head coach Les Miles is very familiar with.
"It was a real tough decision," Jackson said. "It came down to OSU and LSU. My mind was telling me OSU but my gut was saying LSU. I had to follow my gut."
Miles received the good news on Monday and he welcomes the talented duo with open arms.
"He was happy," Jackson said. "He told us welcome aboard and he couldn't wait to coach us."
