Recruiting: Alex Odiari To Sign With OSU

We're sorry we never hooked up with Lewisville (Texs) Hebron standout Alex Odiari on the radio today. But we did confirm with his coach and later with Odiari himself that he is committed to Oklahoma State. In fact, Odiari has kept that commitment he made to the OSU coaches secret for almost a week.

A native of Nigeria who came to the United States in 1998, Odiari is a 6-1, 226-pound very physical athlete who has played nose guard the past two seasons at Hebron.

He earned District Defensive Newcomer of the Year honors as a junior. This past season -- with 108 tackles, 18 tackles for losses, eight sacks, 10 fumbles caused and one fumble return for a touchdown -- he earned District Defensive Player of the Year honors and was a Dallas Morning News First Team All-Metro selection. That one fumble recovery was actually a play where he got into the backfield so quick he took the handoff from the quarterback and scored with it.

Odiari says Oklahoma State was what he was looking for.

"I wanted to go somewhere different than others," said Odiari. "I liked the coaches and the school. They graduate their players, and I feel I can make a difference there."

The very expressive Odiari will make the conversion to middle linebacker and with his 4.5 speed should have little problem in handling the switch.

"I'm looking forward to playing linebacker," said Odiari. "I think I will be able to do really well at the position."

Oddly enough, Odiari shared the Defensive Player of the year honor in District 9-4A with McKinney defensive tackle Lorenzo Jones and now the two are slated to be teammates at Oklahoma State.

Odiari said he will sign between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning with his family, adopted family, and coaches at Hebron.
