Bedlam Comes to Stillwater

Tip-off for the 206th Bedlam meeting between the 10th-ranked Oklahoman State Cowboys and the 14th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners is set for 8:05 p.m. Monday night at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater. Oklahoma has not won in Gallagher-Iba Arena since the 1999-00 season. The Sooners, however, defeated the Cowboys 67-57 in the first Bedlam matchup of the year on Jan. 24 in Norman.

Oklahoma State enters Monday night's Bedlam showdown at 17-3 overall and 7-2 in Big 12 play. Oklahoma is 17-4 overall and 6-2 in the Big 12. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN by announcers Ron Franklin (play-by-play), Fran Fraschilla (color) and Stacey Dales-Schuman (sideline). Tip-off is set for 8:05 p.m. (CST).

The Cowboys were ranked 10th in the Associated Press and 11th in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Top 25 Poll released last Monday. The Sooners checked in at No. 14 in the Associated Press and 16th in the Coaches Poll. The new rankings will be announced late Monday afternoon. In the RPI (Ratings Percentage Index) that is used to help determine seeding for the NCAA Tournament, the Cowboys are ranked fifth and the Sooners 14th as of Sunday.

Oklahoma holds a 119-86 lead in the all-time series against Oklahoma State. However, OSU is 55-40 against OU in Stillwater. OSU head coach Eddie Sutton is 18-13 against the Sooners in his 15 years on the Cowboys' bench. OU head coach Kelvin Sampson is 10-13 overall vs. Oklahoma State and 2-8 against the Cowboys in Stillwater. The Sooners haven't won in Stillwater since the 1999-00 season and haven't swept the Cowboys since the 1998-99 season.

Since inserting freshman JamesOn Curry into the starting lineup the Cowboys have been on a roll, winning three times by an average margin of 18.6 points (winning 104-86 at Colorado, defeating Kansas State 77-57 at GIA and rolling to an 81-63 victory at Baylor). Curry scored a career high 22 points in his first collegiate start at Colorado and is averaging 11.1 pointsper game as a starter. Joey Graham leads the Big 12 in scoring with an 18.4 points per game average. Point guard John Lucas averages 17.7 points (third in the Big 12) and 4.6 assists. Forward Ivan McFarlin also averages in double figures with 12.4 points, and contributes 7.3 rebounds. Stephen Graham, who broke out of a scoring slump with 13 points at Baylor, is averaging 7.8 points off the bench. The Bedlam showdown is the Cowboys' fourth game in nine days. They will only play three games over the next 19 days (Saturday at Texas A&M, Feb. 19 vs. Texas Tech at GIA, and at Nebraska on Feb. 22).

The Sooners, after climbing as high as No. 13 in the AP poll after 10 consecutive victories, have lost two of their last three games, including Saturday's 88-81 loss to Texas Tech at the Lloyd Noble Center. The Sooners committed 20 turnovers against the Red Raiders and allowed Texas Tech to shoot 57.1 percent from the field. The Red Raiders also made 29-of-34 free throws (85.3 percent). Taj Gray, who scored 22 points against the Cowboys in the first meeting, recorded his Big 12-leading 10th double-double against Texas Tech. Gray led the Sooners with 20 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. In his last four games, Gray is averaging 21.8 points, 11.8 rebounds and 2.8 blocked shots. Lawrence McKenzie finished with 16 points after making his first start since late November. Point guard Drew Lavender finished with 13 points, seven assists, three steals and no turnovers. Kevin Bookoout, who had a game-high 23 points against the Cowboys in Norman, has struggled of late for the Sooners. Bookout was 2-for-6 from the field and finished with four points against Texas Tech, and he did not have a single rebound for just the second time in his career. This outing comes just one game after not making a field goal against Texas A&M.
