OSU Defeats Binghamton, 13-3

STILLWATER, Okla. - Junior Adam Carr had four hits and five RBIs to lead Oklahoma State to a 13-3 win over Binghamton Friday evening at Reynolds Stadium.

The Cowboys snapped a two-game losing streak to improve to 5-3 on the year, while the Bearcats lost their season opener.

Carr had a two-run homer, a triple and two doubles in the contest. He was a single short of the cycle going into his last at bat, but ripped a RBI double down the left field line in the eighth inning.

Junior Thomas Cowley (2-1) allowed three runs, two earned, in eight innings of work with five strikeouts to pick up the win. Sophomore Blake Kronkosky struck out the side in the ninth as the Pokes retired the final five Bearcats via the strike out.

Zachary Groh (0-1) allowed six runs, five earned, in 3.2 innings of work in the losing effort. Rightfielder Aaron Davis led BU with two hits and an RBI, while designated hitter Mathieu Bergeron chipped in with a solo homer.

Carr opened the scoring with his two-run homer in the second inning, but Binghamton took advantage of a fielding error to cut the lead to 2-1 in the third.

Third baseman Rusty Ryal blasted his first career homer in the bottom of the third, a two-run shot, and Carr added a RBI double to extend the lead to 5-1. OSU added another run in the fourth and had a five-run sixth inning to put the game away. Catcher Jeff Parrish had a two-run single and Carr brought him home with a triple to lead the way in the frame.

Bergeron's homer and Davis' RBI single accounted for Binghamton's final two runs in the seventh inning.

Oklahoma State added two more runs in the eighth to close out the scoring in the game.

OSU and Binghamton will be back in action in the second game of the series Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
