Cornhuskers Shut Out Cowboys

LINCOLN, Neb. - Junior lefthander Zach Kroenke pitched a complete game three-hit shutout to lead Nebraska to a 6-0 win over Oklahoma State in baseball action Saturday afternoon at Hawks Field.

The Huskers took the series and improved to 24-3 overall and 4-1 in Big 12 play, while the Cowboys fell to 21-10 and 4-4 in conference action.

Kroenke moved to 4-0 on the year, allowing just three hits with seven strikeouts and two walks as OSU was shutout for the first time this year.

Brandon Fusilier's sacrifice fly RBI in the first staked the Huskers to a 1-0 lead. Alex Gordon's two-run homer in the third extended the NU lead to 3-0.

Curtis Ledbetter's RBI double in the fifth pushed the lead to 4-0 and the Huskers added another run when reliever Michael Jarman threw a wild pitch with the bases loaded. A passed ball in the sixth allowed another run to score to make it 6-0.

Rick Rivas (1-2) took the loss after giving up five runs on four hits in 4.1 innings with five walks and a strikeout.

Gordon led the Huskers offensively with a 2-for-3 day with two RBI and three runs scored. Mike Hernandez, Steve Ptak and Chris Gutierrez recorded the three Cowboy hits on the afternoon.

The teams will close out the series Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m.
