Cowboys Win Opener Against Red Raiders

LUBBOCK, Texas - Oklahoma State used a strong pitching performance by Thomas Cowley and a three RBI night by Adam Carr to get past Texas Tech 6-4 in baseball action Friday night at Dan Law Field.

The Cowboys improved to 24-11 overall and 5-5 in Big 12 play, while the Red Raiders fell to 20-11 and 3-6 in league action.

Thomas Cowley (7-2) allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits in 7.1 innings of work with four strikeouts and three walks.

Oklahoma State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first on a two-out RBI single by Ty Wright and a two-run double by Adam Carr.

Shortstop Cameron Blair cut into the Cowboy lead in the bottom of the inning with a two-run homer to left, his ninth of the year. That proved to be the only runs that Cowley would allow in the game.

Carr had a RBI fly out to right in the third that scored Jeff Parrish from third to push the advantage to 4-2.

Mike Hernandez added a sacrifice fly RBI in the sixth to make it 5-2. Jeff Parrish's RBI double in the eighth pushed the lead to 6-2.

Tech rallied with one out in the ninth and cut the lead to 6-4 on designated hitter Matt Smith's two-run single off of Scott Richmond who came on in relief in the eighth. The rally ended there for the Red Raiders as pinch hitter Chris Williams lined out to Mike Hernandez in right and he doubled off pinch runner Madison Edwards at first to end the game.

Jeff Parrish, Ty Wright and Justin Colbert each led the Cowboys with two hits on the night, while Adam Carr added to his team leading RBI total with three tonight, giving him 62 on the year.

The teams will be back in action Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
