Ray (2-4) held the Cowboys scoreless through the first six innings and allowed just a second inning hit to Rusty Ryal. He ended up giving up two runs on three hits in 7.2 innings of work with nine strikeouts and two walks.
The Aggies jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first on a two-run single by Andrew Baldwin. He would add a RBI single in the third to push the lead to 3-0.
Corey Brown got the Pokes on the board in the seventh with a mammoth homer over the right field light standard, his 10th round tripper of the year.
Ty Wright added a two-out RBI single in the eighth to cut the lead to 3-2. The Pokes then loaded the bases but reliever Jason Meyer got Adam Carr to line out to right to end the threat.
Kevin Whelan pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to pick up his second save of the year.
Andrew Baldwin led the Aggies offensively with two hits and three RBIs, while Corey Brown and Ty Wright led the Pokes with a hit and RBI each.
Thomas Cowley was charged with his second consecutive complete game loss to drop to 8-4 on the year. He allowed three runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and three walks.
The teams will continue the series Saturday night at 7 p.m.
